Only in Hong Kong!

So, it's been over a month since I've arrived in Hong Kong... The region is pretty Westernized, plus it's not my first time here, so a lot of the culture doesn't really come as a shock to me. But, there are some.... bemusing things. I came up with a lot, but here's my attempt at truncation:

1. McDelivery

Pretty self-explanatory. Could you imagine how fat Canadians would be if this existed back home?

2. Dessert places everywhere! (this is a good thing :D)

Why don't they have dessert shops at home? Like, every other block? Life is unfair :(

3. But after the desserts, they'll guilt you with their "subliminal' messages

Uh huh. There are weight loss ads everywhere... I've actually stopped at several of them and seriously considered joining one of their programs. All the ads are like "120 lbs to 90 lbs! You can do it!" If they advertised like that back home, I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing lawsuit after lawsuit.... Anyway, Hong Kong girls are too skinny.

4. "Friendly" toilet reminders

It's like we're back in grade school again. Why do Hong Kong people constantly need these reminders?

5. Unnecessary life endangerment
Actually, I can kinda sympathize with jaywalkers. I'm not unreasonable. If you're in a hurry, okay, go ahead and jaywalk. I do it sometimes too. But this is bewildering to me:

I really don't understand why people cross the street, knowing that you won't make it to the other side... You just end up standing there looking like an idiot. Know that you aren't gonna get to your destination any quicker, you know.

6. Hall culture
I didn't realize it until recently, but all the residential halls have a unique "culture". My hallmates do a lot of interesting things, like the following...
flushing express.JPG
Do you know what "Flushing Express" is? It's a neat sheet of paper, taped conveniently beside the toilet for hallmates to leave messages to each other when they're going number 1 or number 2. Mostly number 2 though.

Alright, so I'm gonna leave it at that. I didn't realize that most of the entry consists of just.... ranting. Don't get me wrong though, I love Hong Kong. But, I think it's also really healthy to compare where you are at the moment to your life back at home. It helps you appreciate your hometown that much more. Plus, I think it's ridiculous when people think that Hong Kong is "omg, the best place in the world!!!111". All cultures have their flaws, and you're just in denial if you think a certain place is "perfect".

Anyway, on to other things. How about a nail art spam? If you remember from my last post, I had a French manicure....

I got bored of it precisely after 2 days, and switched to this:

But then I realized it looks like someone took a hammer and pounded on my poor hands. So I changed to just a solid, turquoise-blue colour.

In case you forgot what I looked like (haha)...

Good news: my skin has been clearing up! (FYI: above photo has not been edited). I owe it to great lighting and my new Skinfood products:

I am currently using their cleansing gel, water drop essence, make-up remover, overnight mask, bb cream (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!), toner, spot gel, make-up... Wow, a lot.

Hmmm, what else... I've been spending a lot of time with my cousins. Here's a repost of some of my Facebook photos:

I went to my 2nd high table dinner... My roommate Janet and I (She's so pretty--Did I mention that she's Taiwanese/HK?)

I've been shopping (surprise surprise)...

...and I got my eyelashes done today!

I was disappointed with the result. It looks too natural (you think I'm crazy right?) But it cost me so much... $60CAD just to look like I have naturally long eyelashes? I dunno. But I don't really like it that much. I prefer a more exaggerated look.

And lastly... The boyfriend has been wanting me to post our photos... But how can I when we don't even have any recent ones? D:

(Jacky: How is this?)

That was a long entry... I won't be updating for about... the next two weeks or so. 'Cause I'll be riding elephants in Thailand and suntanning in Boracay, the Philippines! Wish me a safe trip! :)
