What? When? Where? HOW?

Last weekend, Jacky flew to China to visit me!!! We were supposed to meet up in Beijing, but I’ve always wanted to go to Chengdu for the pandas, so that’s what we did. We spent the entire Saturday at the Chengdu Panda Base. It’s basically a huge park where researchers help study and breed the giant panda species.

There are less than 2000 pandas in the world right now, so they’re super endangered. We paid 700RMB per person to volunteer for the day, but it was soworth it. I’d do it again in a heartbeat… It’s awesome how close you get to be with the pandas..

In order to enter the enclosure, you had to wear a protective covering to avoid passing germs into where the pandas lived.

Our first encounter with a panda.

In order to feed the pandas and/or clean their cages, we needed to wear protective clothing similar to the ones for our shoes.

Jacky and I in our “lo to” outfits…

Cleaning the cages! The pandas are so spoiled..

Panda crap! So huge (not the toothpick looking thing, the other piece of.. crap)…

Cutting apples to feed the pandas

We also fed them cakes.. We tried it and it tastes pretty bad :S

Now onto the panda shots! I took 800+ photos that day… I just took photos continuously :S For more photos you should check out my flickr!

These are the bamboo shoots that the pandas waste during their meals..

Feeding them outdoors!

Such a stupid expression!

Watching them eat and play outside

Feeding milk to one of the pandas who refused to eat apples and cakes

THE BEST PART!!!!!!! If you pay 1000rmb (yes you heard me… $150 CAD), you get to hold a baby panda and take photos!

We only got 2 minutes each.. BUT SOOO WORTH IT! To be able to say that I kissed a panda… :)

Family portrait!

:D

The red panda! It’s also endangered, with about only 5000 left in the world.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out in the city.. I missed Starbucks so much! :(

Street food in Chengdu.

We went to “He’s”, a pretty good barbecue restaurant for dinner.

Fried bananas… Yum!

A really great eggplant dish.
